St. Mary’s Church
St. Mary’s Church is probably the most know Krakow’s church. Built originally in the 13th century, then rebuilt in the 14th century, is famous for its breath taking architecture, but also for the wooden altarpiece inside (whish was carved by Veit Stoss) and the ‘Hejnal mariacki’ – a trumpet signal, played every hour from the top of the taller of the church’s tower. The played tune breaks off in midstream to commemorate the famous trumpeter, who was shot in the throat while the Mongol attack in the 13th century.
